What are the mail data migration procedures from my existing service to your Hosted Exchange Service?

Back to list

Media Solutions offers 2 options for the Migration of mail data from an existing POP 3 service to Exchange Server.  These are:

Option 1: Fresh Mailbox:

  • In this option, a fresh mailbox is created from the outset.  The new mailbox is configured in Exchange Server thus creating a new ost file for each client.
  • A new Exchange Server profile is simultaneously created in Outlook, where the old POP 3 pst files are then imported into an archive pst which is then available as an archive folder on each client.
  • The user is then free to move folders or individual mail from the archive folder to the new mailbox ost.  This leads to minimum server synchronization (Only for folders or mail moved from the archive pst to the new mailbox ost)

Option 2: Continuation of Old Mailbox:

  • In this option, a fresh mailbox is created for each user from the outset.  The new mailbox is configured in Exchange Server.
  • A new Exchange Server profile is simultaneously created in Outlook where the old POP 3 pst files are then imported into the mailbox and reside as an ost in the new profile.
  • Once the ost file has been created, this then automatically synchronizes with the server.  This process consumes bandwidth and it is recommended that the relevant client machines are kept running for a period of 24 ? 48 hours depending on the Internet connection speed.
